Step 1: Locate your water meter. Step 2:Turn off all taps, except for the stop-tap next to the water meter and at the toilet. Keep in mind:
If you live in a block of units or flats you may need to contact your Owners Corporation to conduct a leak test.
A leak test might not show possible leaks with automated watering systems or dripper systems in your garden.
If you have recently installed a new irrigation system, evaporative cooler, or solar panels, these appliances may be contributing to an increase in water use.
Meter types
Meter type 1 The black numbers measure kilolitres and the red measure litres. Meter type 2 Read the black numbers from left to right, then read the red dials in clockwise order. Alternatively, observe the tell-tale wheel for movement during the leak test. Meter type 3 The black numbers measure kilolitres and the red measure litres.
